■ Development notes A friend on a mountain heard a whistle and tracked the sound to a missing hiker. A business partner carried a whistle and was rescued because of it. A friend of ours died in the mountains. These events happened one after another, and they made us see how vital a whistle really is. Most whistles on the market need a strong, fast burst of breath to sound — we kept asking ourselves whether they would actually work at the limit. So we set out to design a whistle that produces a loud sound with no more than the muscle of your cheeks. We read all kinds of papers — sometimes papers on musical instruments — searched for information in an era before AI, and arrived at this shape only after a long string of prototypes. By pushing the design to its limit, we got it down to just 2 g. We hope this whistle becomes a small charm you carry with you for safety.
Design Concept / 設計コンセプト
MIYAGEN's whistle was built around four points: • Strap-size • Ultralight • Two chambers • High volume In trail-running races today, a whistle is sometimes required by the rules. Yet most whistles on the market are heavy and hard to sound. This product takes advantage of what 3D printing can do, with a design that would be impossible to mould — at 2 g it still puts out about 135 dB. The cross-section curves like an aeroplane wing, organising the airflow to draw the sound out. With strap-style whistles, single-chamber designs are the norm. But the resulting sound is monotone and tends to blend into nature. With the 3D WHISTLE 2g we insisted on a two-chamber design. Two chambers make the sound vibrate, giving it a distinctive and easy-to-hear character. One problem of two-chamber designs is that, due to the constraints of conventional manufacturing, they have generally been large and heavy. By mass-producing on a 3D printer, however, we adopted a structure that wasn't possible before, and delivered all four points: strap-size, ultralight, two chambers, and high volume. For emergency use we added a strap hole with a 3 mm slit so it's always with you.

■ Notes about the product Each item is produced individually using an FDM 3D printer, so no two items will have the exact same texture. Please be aware that layer lines and irregularities inherent to FDM 3D printing may occur during the manufacturing process. We remove burrs and snags by hand one by one to prevent them from forming. However, if any burrs remain that you find bothersome, please carefully remove them yourself using a cutter or file before use. This product is intended for ages 15 and up. ■ Precautions for use This part has been field-tested, but we cannot guarantee that it will not break. Please use this product at your own risk and take care not to place excessive load on it. The manufacturer shall not be held liable for any damages incurred as a result of using the product. ■Regarding the strength of 3D printed products In developing the product, we reviewed the resin filling amount and mechanical structure to ensure it can withstand the loads expected during use. We conduct our own compression, drop, and impact tests on the whistles to ensure they have sufficient strength. However, they may break if subjected to strong force, such as being stepped on or pierced by a sharp object. While safety has been confirmed through strength tests, the strength can change depending on the lamination state, temperature, and humidity. ■Material We use industrial-grade ASA resin, which is difficult to manufacture with conventional 3D printers due to the challenges of temperature control. While possessing similar properties to ABS resin, this material offers superior UV resistance, high weather resistance in high temperatures and humidity, excellent mechanical impact strength, and is suitable for long-term use, thus improving product quality.
