The story behind the creation and design of "3D Whistle 2g" ①
The author's realization of the importance of whistles stemmed from a friend's rescue experience. The book recounts an episode where, while hiking in the low mountains, the friend heard a sound from the bottom of a valley, discovered a person who had fallen, and rescued them.
Complaints about existing whistle products included "insufficient volume," "requiring strong breaths," and "heavy weight." The author decided that he needed a lightweight, loud whistle that could be carried at all times for his long-distance trail trips, and began designing and developing one using 3D printing technology.
The design process employs a mechanical design framework consisting of ① conceptual design, ② basic design, ③ detailed design, and ④ production design. In the conceptual design phase, the concept of "ultra-lightweight, compact, and easy to sound with high volume" was established, and a mechanism that responds even to weak breathing during a sternal fracture was defined as a requirement. In the basic design phase, multiple reference materials were utilized, and it is explained that the fundamentals of whistle design were acquired through the Ver1 prototype.
